Doing it Right: Humans of New York

If you don’t follow Humans of New York on FacebookTumblr, or Twitter, you are seriously missing out. HONY is the project of Brandon Stanton, a photographer in New York City, who started out photographing New Yorkers in 2010. Stanton began interviewing and taking quotes from the subjects he photographs, and the result is a beautiful collection of modern photographs and stories about every day humans in New York. (And sometimes other places too.)

Stanton has a talent for finding the story and sharing it in a way that is honest and captivating. The HONY Facebook page has 1.7 million likes, and its reach extends far beyond New York City, especially now that 400 of these images have been immortalized in print. (Check out the HONY Book!)

HONY has effectively utilized social media to create a sense of community among strangers from all over the world. It’s the perfect anthropological collection of the 21st century.
